1B Rankings

Albert Pujols – Easy top 5 pick

Miguel Cabrera – Following in Albert’s footsteps

Lance Berkman – Can he steal 10-15 again?

Justin Morneau – Will bounce back with 30+ HR again.

Mark Teixeira – New uniform, same consistency.

Ryan Howard – YES: HR, RBI, R. NO: AVG, SB.

Ryan Howard

Prince Fielder – Could surpass Howard if his AVG improves.

Adrian Gonzalez – Becoming very consistent. Don’t expect improvement.

Kevin Youklis – 2008 was his career year. Expect regression.

Joey Votto – This could be the year he joins the elite 1B.

Carlos Delgado – Playing for a contract… again.

Aubry Huff – Also playing for a contract.

James Loney – Solid, but room to improve.

Derrick Lee – The difference between him and Loney? Lee has no upside.

Carlos Pena – A poor man’s Ryan Howard.

Conor Jackson – Is he the next Sean Casey? He’ll be 27 this year.

Casey Kotchman – Loney-like potential but a lot later.

Jorge Cantu – Boring, yet good value in drafts.

Adam LaRoche – Contract year puts him ahead of some others.

Jason Giambi – A homeless Ryan Howard.

Paul Konerko – Fading away fast.

Mike Jacobs – Switching leagues could hinder his early production.

Todd Helton – Remember him?

Kendry Morales – Kotchman-like production, but even later.

Ryan Garko – He’s not starting material.

Hank Blalock – Will he stay healthy?

Russell Branyan – Some pop, little else.

Lyle Overbay – Poor man’s Todd Helton; not in Coors Field.

Nick Johnson – Always hurt.

Travis Ishikiwa – Doubt he ends up lasting long.

                                                   3B Rankings

David Wright - A 30/30 candidate with 250 R + RBI.
Alex Rodriguez - He's been a top 5 pick 13 years in a row.
Aramis Ramirez - He's more reliable than Longoria.
Evan Longoria - He struck out 23% of the time in those 448 AB.

Evan Longoria

Chipper Jones - Quality prevails over quantity.
Garrett Atkins - No more Holliday; he's going downhill fast.
Chris Davis - Intriguing. Will play 1B in 2009.
Adrian Beltre - The last time he was playing for a contract, he hit 48 homers.
Ryan Zimmerman - He should bounce back.
Jorge Cantu - Could see power drop; safe for 20 HR though.
Alex Gordon - Potential at a weak position.  15/15?
Mark Reynolds - 204 K's means his AVG will still be awful.
Chone Figgins - Four homers in his last 900 AB.
Edwin Encarnacion - Could push 30 HR this year.
Troy Glaus - A consistent power threat with some RBI.
Melvin Mora - Playing for a contract.
Kevin Kouzmanoff - Petco is holding him back.  So are the strikeouts.
Dallas McPherson - He hit 42 HR in AAA last year.
Ian Stewart - A starter in Coors.  Can't be all that bad.
Pablo Sandoval - Likely a 1B.  Potential for C eligibility.  15 HR?
Josh Fields - Upside... something this position lacks.
Mike Lowell - Good lineup.  Could bounce back.
Dayan Viciedo - The White Sox seem to know their Cubans.
Scott Rolen - Truly awful.
Eric Chavez - See Scott Rolen.
Michael Young - How the mighty have fallen.
Andy LaRoche - He's got upside.  I'll make him a late, late pick.
Casey Blake - Mediocre.
Mark DeRosa - Cleveland's Blake replacement.
Matt Gamel - How long can Bill Hall last?
